The Functioning of the SAP ETL Tool

Image
The SAP ETL Tool is highly optimized to integrate different systems and transform various formats into each other. But before going into the functioning of the tool, it is necessary to understand more about ETL. ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) is a process that is used for extracting, transforming, and loading data from several sources into a centralized data storage or a data warehouse. The advantage here is that ETL extracts data in native form and transforms it into the required format before loading it to the intended target.  There are several functions of the SAP ETL Tool. It moves data between SAP ecosystems and verifies if the value of a name has been defined. Not only does the tool clean the data but it can function in extracting and transforming data even outside the application. With the SAP ETL Tool, users can migrate data from SAP or non-SAP sources to target the HANA database through the SAP Data Services. Hence, businesses can run data analytics in the application ...

Capturing Data with The SAP BW Extractor

Image
The SAP BW Extractor is a program for users for capturing and preparing data in SAP ERP. This is done through an extract structure that is transferable to the BW (Business Warehouse). This program can be run from a standardized Data Source or customized as per specific needs. In both cases, a full process load of various types or a delta load process has to be defined. The SAP Business Warehouse can remotely access the various aspects of the SAP BW Extractor. The question now is whether all data will be lost if the SAP BW Extractor is moved to S/4HANA or other SAP BW Extractors that are compatible with S/4HANA. The point is that only transactional and operational activities can be done and not analytics by the SAP ECC system. Hence the SAP BW Extractor is required to extract data from the SAP ECC system to an SAP BW system to analyze ECC data. After linking the SAP BW Extractor to a BW system, the latter can perform analytical activities by connecting to the Business Intelligence syst...

Why Should You Use AWS DMS to Migrate Databases

Image
Database migration is greatly optimized if you use AWS DMS ( Amazon Web Service Database Migration Service), regardless of whether the data movement is from an on-premises server to the cloud or from one cloud provider to another. AWS DMS  enables data migration from NoSQL databases, data warehouses, and relational databases. You can carry out one-time migration of data or continuous migration of all changes subject to the source and the target databases being kept continually in sync. Compared to the traditional database migration solutions, there are several benefits of using AWS DMS. The first and most critical is the speed of migration when compared to the past methods. While previously additional hardware and software had to be installed for migration, AWS DMS provides fully-managed services including tracking, deploying, and setting up the infrastructure for migration once the software is configured. You also get the benefit of unlimited storage options after migrating ...

Capturing Data Through SAP Data Extraction

Image
The process of SAP data extraction  captures and formats data through an exact structure. This data, in turn, can be transferred to the SAP BW (Business Warehouse). SAP Extractor is a program in SAP ERP that can either be taken from a homogeneous Data Source or customized as per needs. Both the methods describe a delta load process of full load with the SAP BW remotely accessing ingtransfer aspects through SAP data extraction. The SAP data extraction process with the SAP Extractor starts with help from multiple application-specific extractors which are hard-coded for the Data Source to be delivered along with the BI Content for the SAP Business Warehouse. The Extractor is designed to exactly match the architecture of the Data Source. Further, several generic extractors can be used for SAP data extraction from source systems and transferring to the SAP BW. The full process is automated and the SAP Extractor knows which data has to be extracted and from which tables the dat...

Migrating Oracle Database to Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3)

Image
Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) is a cloud-based service that is cost-effective and provides unlimited storage capabilities. For Oracle databases, the most common source for data lakes in the Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS). To migrate the database from Oracle to S3 , there should be an AWS account. Further, also required is an Amazon RDS for the Oracle database and an S3 bucket l ocated in the same region where the AWS DMS (Database Migration Service) replication instance is created for migration.  Databases can be migrated from Oracle to S3in any one of two ways. The first is by importing data, Oracle Data Pump, and Database Link where the Data Pump and the Oracle DBMS_FILE_TRANSFER package are used to link to a source Oracle instance. This can be initiated either through an Amazon EC2 instance or an Amazon RDS for the Oracle database instance. After the Oracle data is exported to a dump file with the DBMS_DATAPUMP package, the file thus created is copied to the Ama...

Migrating Databases with the AWS Database Migration Service

Image
The Amazon Web Service Database Migration Service ( AWS DMS) is one of the most optimized methods for migrating databases from on-premises systems to the cloud or from one cloud provider to another. Options include one-time migration of databases or continuous replication of changed data from the source to target through the Change Data Capture tool provided both are always kept in sync. AWS DMS   is widely used to move data between relational databases, NoSQL databases, and data warehouses. AWS DMS  is a replication software based in the cloud. For it to work, a connection has to be first established between the source and the target databases so that it understands from where to extract the data and move it to which location. Once this link is established, the activity that will enable migration has to be defined. There are two types of database migration with AWS DMS. The first is Homogeneous Migration done when the database engines, data codes and types, and the schem...

Migrating Databases from SQL Server to Snowflake – The Reasons Why

Image
Today’s data-driven businesses depend a great deal on processes that optimize the formatting, processing, and analyzing of terabytes of data sourced both internally and externally. One of the focuses here is to do so in a cost-effective and seamless way, the most preferred being migrating databases to the cloud such as SQL Server to Snowflake. The point now is why would organizations want to migrate databases from SQL Server to Snowflake? It is mainly because of the many benefits associated with the cloud ecosystem that Snowflake, a cloud-based data warehousing solution has to offer. Given below are some of them. ·         Snowflake supports a wide range of cloud vendors and hence, users can work on all or any one of them with the same set of tools and skillsets. ·         Traditional databases have one silo for both computing and storage while in Snowflake, the two are segregated. This makes it easy to estimate the c...

The Unique Architecture of the SAP Data Lake

Image
SAP launched HANA Data Lake in April 2020, intending to provide users with an advanced as well as a very cost-effective data storage repository. The complete package consists of a native storage extension and an  SAP Data Lake   that is standard across all models and versions. The architecture of the SAP Data Lake is unique and stands out from other forms of data lakes. Businesses have the option to store data that is frequently used and accessed (hot data) segregated from data that is not used much (warm data) in the Native Storage Extension (NSE) of SAP HANA. The SAP Data Lake may be visualized as a pyramid with three distinct layers. On the top part of the pyramid is space offered to businesses to store the data which is critical for daily operations and has to be accessed daily. Since this data has very high demand, the storing cost too is the highest among all the three segments. The middle layer of the pyramid is for organizations to store data that is no...
